Alternative medicine becoming popular in Bahrain

Alternative medicine is becoming more popular in Bahrain. More and more people are trying things like hypnotherapy and reiki. Hypnotherapy is when a hypnotherapist tries to change the feelings and behavior of people. Many people use it to stop smoking. Reiki changes the energy lines in your body to make you better. People are also becoming interested in other kinds of alternative medicine, for example, homeopathy and acupuncture. Wikipedia.com says alternative medicine is any treatment that heals the body without medicine. Wikipedia says there is little scientific research on it. There are very few medical universities in western countries where you can study alternative medicine.

Bahrain allowed alternative medicine in 2012 and is being very careful. It only gave licenses to seven therapy clinics in 2013. Dr Baha Fateha from Bahrain's health department said more people wanted to open their own clinics. He told Gulf News: "Alternative therapy is on the increase in Bahrain and we have new applications all the time." He also said the country wanted to make sure new clinics were safe. He said: "First, we need to see evidence that they have the professional qualifications to do their job and that they have a business plan." A hypnotherapist in Bahrain said many people did not understand alternative medicine. She said people, "still see it as a form of magic or something that can't be trusted".

Record number of Rolls-Royces sold in 2013

The luxury automobile maker Rolls-Royce has reported record sales for 2013. The company said it's the fourth consecutive annual sales record. It sold 3,630 cars last year, with a strong surge in demand in the Middle East and China accounting for a good portion of the buoyant sales. The Middle East saw a sales increase of 17 per cent last year, while sales in China went up by 11 per cent. Rolls-Royce sold cars in more than 40 countries last year, including new markets. Plans are in place to continue this global expansion. The company CEO said: "We have reported a strong year and have maintained our position at the pinnacle of the super-luxury market." Super-luxury means cars costing over $272,000.

The CEO said people buy a Rolls Royce because they want to have a brand that is unrivalled in its image of luxury. He said: "It's the ultimate treat; the reward for hard work. We see that clearly from our customers. Around 80 per cent of our cars are bought by businessmen and women, most of whom have started and run their own businesses. The rest are bought by sports stars and film stars." He added that it's not just the super-rich who were snapping up the cars. He said: "What's interesting now is that we are seeing a new group of individuals who have built up mid-sized businesses and they also want to treat themselves to the magic carpet ride." Businesswomen now account for ten per cent of sales.

Job hunter puts CV on billboard

Frenchman lands job thanks to billboard CV A French man who was unemployed tried a new way to get a job. He put his CV (résumé) on a giant billboard. The billboard was next to a very busy road. It was four metres long and three metres high. There was a photo of the man wearing a Santa Claus hat. There was a message on the billboard that said: "Trilingual operations manager seeks position in hotels, restaurants, tourism and leisure." About 70,000 people a day could see the CV from their car. Jobseeker Laurent Le Bret, 41, said: "All I want for Christmas is a job." His idea worked. A holiday resort contacted and interviewed him. He started his new position as an operations manager ten days after he put his résumé on the billboard.

Mr Le Bret had help from the owner of the billboard. He was going to pay to put his CV on the billboard. However, the advertising company decided to give him the space for free. Mr Le Bret saved 2,000 euros (about $2,700) because he did not have to pay. The advertising company is called Pisoni Publicité. The company's CEO spoke to the France 24 news agency. He said: "We thought it was an interesting idea. When people come up with ideas like this we are always keen to see what we can do. We're very happy to prove that what we do works, and that Mr Le Bret is back at work." Many people contacted Mr Le Bret after he got his job. They want to try the same thing. There are 3.3 million unemployed people in France.
